Writing at Woodbury

1-16-16-twc_tutorsThe Writing Department at Woodbury University is proud of its major and minor in writing.  Both programs combine creative writing with professional writing.

Creative writers are imaginative artists, using the genres of fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, script writing, and combinations of genres to express themselves and to explore the complexities of the human experience in a way that is meaningful to audiences.  The tools of their craft are narrative, scene, character development, and the tropes and traditions of poetics.

Professional writers make complex ideas, processes, or procedures understandable.   They are practice-based writers who use writing in workplace environments to make things happen and to achieve goals.  Some of their tools are business writing, grant writing, technical writing, and writing about science or the law.

The Woodbury Writing degree combines creative writing with professional writing to prepare students to be imaginative and ethical writers ready to work individually and collaboratively in a variety of exciting media- and information-driven workplace environments both as part of a team and as individual artists.
